What's happening to Avaya.

Avaya emerged from its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2023 with a strategic focus on cloud and a clear de-emphasis of on-prem PBX systems. Avaya IP Office, the small-business workhorse, is still sold but increasingly steered toward Avaya Cloud Office (an RingCentral-powered offering, not Avaya's own technology).

Avaya Definity G3 and the older Communication Manager systems went end-of-sale in 2019 with end-of-support phases continuing through 2024. Aura, the larger enterprise system, has a much longer roadmap but is being aggressively repositioned toward Avaya's hosted offerings.

Customers on legacy Avaya systems are paying yearly maintenance contracts that are increasing, getting fewer updates, and finding fewer certified resellers and technicians willing to support the hardware. The exit path is getting narrower every year.

Avaya systems we migrate every week.

If you're running one of these, we have a playbook for your migration.

Avaya IP Office 500
The small-and-mid PBX. End-of-sale 2023, end-of-support phased through 2027. Most common system we migrate.
Avaya Partner ACS
The very-small-business legacy product. Discontinued 2014. Still in service at thousands of small offices. End-of-support — there's no path.
Avaya Definity G3 / Communication Manager
Enterprise system. EOL phased through 2024. Replacement parts becoming scarce.
Avaya Aura
Newer enterprise platform. Long roadmap, but Avaya is moving aggressively toward hosted. Many customers preempting the eventual forced migration.
Avaya 9600-series, J100-series, 1600-series IP phones
Most current Avaya SIP phones can be re-flashed for use with voip.army or any modern SIP provider. We help with the firmware swap.

How a Avaya migration works.

Step-by-step. No surprises. Your existing Avaya system stays operational the entire time.

01

We audit your current Avaya setup

Send us a screenshot of your system manager / IP Office Manager. We'll tell you exactly what migrates cleanly and what needs reconfiguration.

02

We mirror your dial plan and routing

Auto-attendant menus, ring groups, hunt groups, time-of-day routing, voicemail — we rebuild it in voip.army before the cutover.

03

We port your numbers

Every DID currently on your Avaya system ports to voip.army for free. The cutover is fast (sub-5-second) — no calls lost.

04

We rehome your existing phones if possible

Avaya J139, J169, J179 phones and most 9600-series SIP phones can be re-flashed to work with voip.army. We help. If your phones won't survive the move, we'll quote replacements (Yealink/Grandstream).

05

We turn off the Avaya box

Decommission the IP Office or Aura system. Cancel the maintenance contract. Stop paying.

A Avaya customer, after.

★★★★★

"Our engineering firm was running an Avaya IP Office system that hadn't been updated since 2016. The migration to voip.army was painless — they handled the porting, set up our IVR, and rehomed our J169 phones. Same handsets, modern back-end, half the cost."

Most Avaya J100-series and 9600-series IP phones can be re-flashed to use generic SIP firmware and registered to voip.army. We've done it for hundreds of customers. Older non-SIP phones (digital sets, Partner sets) generally won't transition — we'll quote modern replacements.
For small IP Office systems (under 25 users), 1–2 weeks end to end including porting. Larger Aura deployments, 4–6 weeks. We've never had a migration take more than 6 weeks.
Yes. We rebuild your dial plan in voip.army before cutover — auto-attendants, hunt groups, time-of-day routing, voicemail boxes — everything mirrors your current Avaya setup so day-one feels identical to your callers and staff.
Existing recordings on your Avaya system stay there (we don't migrate historical audio). Going forward, voip.army records to our encrypted storage with 90 days standard, 7 years on Pro. We can help you export Avaya recordings to an archive before decommission.
No — and please don't. Keep the Avaya system fully operational during the migration. Cut the contract only after voip.army has been live and stable for 2 weeks.
