What size room is the SoundStation IP 6000 designed for?

Medium-to-large — up to about ten people, roughly 10-foot microphone pickup range. For boardrooms or larger spaces, the IP 7000 with expansion microphones is the right pick; for small huddle rooms the IP 5000 is cheaper.

Is the SoundStation IP 6000 still supported on voip.army?

Yes — UCS firmware 4.0.15 on our legacy provisioning VLAN. Provisioning stays on an isolated network; SIP signaling and call audio are normal.

Does the SoundStation IP 6000 require special PoE?

It supports IEEE 802.3af Class 3 PoE or an optional 48V DC adapter. The audio path is bigger than a desk phone, so it draws more power than a typical Class 1/2 device. Most modern PoE switches handle Class 3 without trouble.

What's the modern equivalent?

The Poly Trio 8500 (similar pickup range, modern touch UI, USB/Bluetooth) or the Trio 8800 (larger pickup, supports expansion microphones, IEEE 802.3at PoE). Both run current UCS firmware on voip.army's main provisioning network.

The SoundStation IP 6000 was the mid-tier conference phone in the SoundStation family — released 2007, EOL'd 2018. A 10-foot microphone pickup range, three high-fidelity speakers in the triangular chassis, and a wideband audio path that's still impressive for the era.

It's the right size for medium-to-large conference rooms — up to about ten people around a long table. For boardroom-scale rooms (12+) the IP 7000 supports expansion microphones; for small huddle rooms the IP 5000 is half the price and adequate.

For existing fleets, the IP 6000 onboards onto voip.army's legacy provisioning VLAN. For new orders the modern equivalent is the Poly Trio 8500 (touch interface, USB/Bluetooth pairing) or the Trio 8800 (larger room, IEEE 802.3at PoE, optional satellite mics).

The SoundStation IP 6000 runs Polycom UCS firmware 4.0.15 — the last release that supports this hardware. It onboards onto voip.army the same way as any current phone, just on our legacy provisioning VLAN because the phone's TLS stack predates modern web standards. Call quality is normal SRTP.
