What's happening to Comdial.

Comdial Corporation was acquired by Vertical Communications in March 2005, ending Comdial as an independent brand. While Vertical continued to support installed Comdial systems for a number of years, active development effectively ceased and most product lines moved into long-tail maintenance mode.

Replacement parts for Impact and DSU II systems have been scarce since the mid-2010s. The pool of certified Comdial technicians is shrinking every year as the people who learned these systems in the 1990s and early 2000s retire. Most customers running Comdial today are paying a local IT shop a premium to keep an unsupportable system limping.

The right move isn't to find another Comdial tech — it's to retire the entire box. Modern cloud VoIP does everything a Comdial Impact did, with no on-prem equipment, half the monthly cost, and no maintenance contract.

Comdial systems we migrate every week.

If you're running one of these, we have a playbook for your migration.

Comdial Impact / Impact SCS
The flagship small-business KSU from the 1990s and early 2000s. Hugely common deployment. Most parts unavailable since 2015. Most common system we migrate.
Comdial DSU II / DSU II SCS
Digital station unit successor. Still in service at thousands of small offices. Vertical kept it limping but no new development.
Comdial ExecuTech
Earlier electronic key system. Wholly unsupported. If yours is still working, retire it before it stops.
Comdial FX, FXII, FXS
Mid-size IP-capable systems from the early 2000s. The youngest Comdial systems, but still long-discontinued.
Comdial digital handsets (Impact 8024S, 8324S)
Proprietary digital sets — won't work with anything except a Comdial KSU. We replace these with modern Yealink or Grandstream IP handsets at low cost (or skip entirely, the apps work great).

How a Comdial migration works.

Step-by-step. No surprises. Your existing Comdial system stays operational the entire time.

01

We audit your current Comdial setup

Tell us your model, the number of stations, your trunk type (analog/T1/PRI), and which features you actually use day-to-day.

02

We mirror your dial plan

Hunt groups, intercom dialing patterns, voicemail boxes, auto-attendant menus — we rebuild it in voip.army so day-one feels identical to your callers.

03

We port your numbers

Every line currently on your Comdial system ports to voip.army for free. The cutover is sub-5-second — no calls lost.

04

We replace your handsets (or skip them)

Comdial digital phones won't work with VoIP. We swap to Yealink/Grandstream IP phones at cost, or your team uses the mobile and desktop apps and you skip desk phones entirely.

05

We turn off the Comdial box

Decommission the KSU. Stop paying the local tech who's been keeping it alive. Recycle the equipment.

A Comdial customer, after.

★★★★★

"We had a Comdial Impact in service since 1998. Our local tech retired in 2022 and we couldn't find a replacement willing to even look at it. voip.army migrated us in two weeks — apps for everyone, two desk phones for reception, and we cut our phone bill in half. Should've done this five years ago."

Comdial migration FAQ.

The questions we get from Comdial customers considering the move. If yours isn't here, ask.

No. Comdial digital handsets (Impact 8024S, 8324S, ExecuTech sets) use proprietary signaling that only works with a Comdial KSU. They can't be reused with VoIP. We replace them with Yealink T31P or Grandstream GXP-series IP phones — $59–$169 per phone. Most customers skip them entirely and use the apps on existing phones and computers.
Yes — every number currently on your Comdial system ports to voip.army for free. Local ports take 1–3 business days. Your Comdial system keeps handling calls right up until the moment the port completes.
For a typical small office (under 15 stations), 1–2 weeks end to end including porting and hardware delivery. Larger sites with multiple locations or complex routing, 3–4 weeks. The Comdial system stays fully live the entire time.
Not for us, but it does affect your ISP / carrier contracts. We'll help you cancel the T1/PRI service since voip.army uses your existing internet connection. Many customers find this cancellation alone covers the cost of voip.army for the first year.
Historical voicemails on your Comdial system stay there (we don't migrate the audio). Going forward, voip.army delivers voicemail to email with audio attachments and AI transcripts. If you have important old voicemails, retrieve them before decommission.
