Why the VVX 101 is on the catalog.

The VVX 101 is the simplest phone Poly still sells. One line, a small backlit greyscale screen, two programmable line keys, full-duplex speakerphone, and that's it — no headset port, no USB, no Bluetooth, no expansion. We sell it for exactly the deployments it was designed for: a warehouse common phone, a courtesy line at a reception desk, a phone in the break room people use to call out for lunch.

The reason it survives in a catalog full of fancier color-touch models is that nothing else hits its price point with Poly's name on the side. The handset uses the same wideband HD audio transducer Poly ships across the VVX line — you don't lose audio quality going down to the 101, you lose features. For a phone that needs to dial three numbers a day and not require a service ticket, that's the right trade.

Where it isn't the right phone: any actual desk. The 101 has no headset jack, so anyone wearing one all day needs at least a VVX 150. The two line keys can't be expanded. There's no XML application support beyond basic provisioning. And the 100Base Ethernet pass-through caps anyone plugged into the back at 100 Mbps. If any of that applies, look at the VVX 250 or VVX 301.
