What made the SoundPoint IP 335 so popular?

The combination of HD voice (G.722) and gigabit Ethernet at an entry-tier price point in 2010 was unusual. Most phones at that price had 100Base Ethernet. The 335 also happens to be exceptionally durable — a lot of them are still in service fifteen years after deployment.

Is the SoundPoint IP 335 still supported on voip.army?

Yes — on our legacy provisioning VLAN running UCS firmware 4.0.15. Provisioning traffic stays on an isolated network because the phone predates TLS 1.2 support, but call media (SRTP) and SIP signaling are fully functional.

Can I still buy SoundPoint IP 335 new?

No — Polycom EOL'd it in 2016. Our inventory is refurbished/pre-owned units pulled from large fleet decommissions, tested, cosmetically cleaned, and re-flashed with current firmware before shipping.

What's the strict upgrade path?

The Poly VVX 250 — two-line entry phone with a 2.8-inch color display, gigabit Ethernet, USB headset support, and current UCS firmware. About $80 more than a refurbished 335; significantly newer phone.

Why we still support the SoundPoint IP 335.

The SoundPoint IP 335 was the single most-deployed SoundPoint IP phone in its era. Two SIP lines, HD voice, full-duplex speakerphone, RJ9 headset jack, and — crucially — gigabit Ethernet on both ports, which meant offices that ran gigabit to every desk could use it without throttling workstations behind the phone. Released 2010, EOL'd 2016.

We see more 335s in customer fleets than any other discontinued Polycom model. The hardware is unusually durable — fifteen-plus years in continuous use is normal — and Polycom's audio engineering on the SoundPoint handset has aged remarkably well. The phone still sounds good in 2026.

If you've got 335s in production, voip.army onboards them on our legacy provisioning VLAN running UCS firmware 4.0.15. Send us the MAC addresses, factory-reset the phones, and they pick up the new configuration on next boot. For new orders the modern equivalent is the VVX 250 — same two-line basic layout, but with color, current firmware, and Opus codec support.

The SoundPoint IP 335 runs Polycom UCS firmware 4.0.15 — the last release that supports this hardware. It onboards onto voip.army the same way as any current phone, just on our legacy provisioning VLAN because the phone's TLS stack predates modern web standards. Call quality is normal SRTP.
